National Formosa University celebrated the "DIWALI Indian Festival of Lights" on Thursday, November 13, once again illuminating the campus with the charm of South Asian culture. The event, jointly organized by the university and Indian students, featured traditional ceremonies, cultural introductions, interactive competitions, and local food experiences. Students from Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey, Thailand, and other countries enthusiastically participated, showcasing the campus’s multicultural vitality and warm festive atmosphere.

The event began with the “Diya Lighting” ceremony, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the welcoming of hope. Indian students then introduced the history, origins, and cultural significance of Diwali, helping attendees understand why it is celebrated as the “Festival of Lights.”

The “Rangoli Art Competition” was a highlight of the event. Rangoli is a traditional Indian floor art, and participating teams created colorful patterns representing light, blessings, and cultural symbols using colored powders. Completed artworks were judged and awarded, making this one of the most eye-catching activities.

A special feature this year was the “Indian Cuisine DIY Experience,” where Indian students led participants in making popular street snacks such as Pani Puri and coconut ladoo. This hands-on activity allowed attendees to experience Indian food culture, complemented by a variety of authentic Indian home dishes, delighting both Taiwanese and international students with rich and flavorful tastes.

The performances were equally impressive, including Indian dances combining modern rhythms with traditional steps, showcasing the charm of multicultural arts and earning continuous applause. Interactive games and a sparkler-lighting session added warmth to the event, bringing students of different nationalities closer together.

The DIWALI Festival at NFU has been held for six consecutive years, reflecting the university’s ongoing commitment to international cultural exchange. The university hopes to continue expanding cross-cultural activities and exchanges to create a diverse, open, and friendly campus environment for all students and staff.
