The Ministry of Education announced today that the Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College) in the United States and National Formosa University (NFU) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This marks the first time Penn College has signed an agreement with a Taiwanese institution, aiming to deepen educational cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S.
According to the Ministry’s press release, Penn College Vice President Anthony Pace and International Affairs Director Patrick Marty visited Taiwan from November 17 to 22 for a six-day, five-night exchange program.
During their visit, arranged by the Ministry of Education, Pace and his team visited multiple universities to explore Taiwan’s developments in sustainable architecture, smart manufacturing, AI and IoT, aerospace maintenance, nursing, and hospitality management. They also toured Lunghwa University of Science and Technology’s “High-Speed Interface Electronic Packaging Design and Testing Talent & Technology Training Base” and NFU’s “Drone Industry Talent and Technology Training Base,” engaging in in-depth exchanges with faculty and students on-site.
The Ministry of Education stated that Pace and his team highly praised Taiwan’s technical innovation and professional training models. During the visit, Penn College signed the MOU with NFU, marking the first academic collaboration agreement between Penn College and a Taiwanese higher education institution, symbolizing a new milestone in Taiwan-U.S. educational exchange.
Lee Yu-Chuan, Director-General of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education at the Ministry of Education, noted that Penn College is renowned for its applied education and industry linkage. The college has partnered with the U.S. Department of Labor and various industry partners to promote advanced manufacturing apprenticeship programs, training over 3,200 apprentices to date. Its innovation- and practice-oriented educational model is highly compatible with Taiwan’s vocational and technical education system.
