The 30th InnoServe University Information Application Service Innovation Competition held its finals and awards ceremony on Saturday, November 1. National Formosa University (NFU) teams from the Departments of Photonics, Computer Science, and Information Technology excelled in the "Designated Project Category," winning three first-place awards, one second-place award, and one honorable mention, showcasing NFU’s research capabilities in AI, cybersecurity, intelligent systems integration, and cross-domain applications.
This year’s competition was hosted by the Digital Development Department’s Digital Industry Administration, the Ministry of Education’s Information and Technology Education Division, and the Information Management Association of the Republic of China. A total of 1,964 teams (9,781 participants) from 151 universities and colleges competed, setting a record for the highest participation in the competition’s history. After preliminary and secondary evaluations, 414 elite teams competed for 174 awards, with a total prize pool of approximately NT$3 million, making the contest highly competitive.
NFU won first place in the "Cybersecurity Technology Group" with the project "High-Security Fingerprint Enhancement and Anti-Spoofing Recognition System," developed by Associate Professor Hsu Mao-Hsiu's team from the Department of Photonics. In response to the rapid rise of generative technologies and fake fingerprint attacks, the team focused on anti-spoofing recognition and improved their design based on previous judges’ feedback, successfully advancing from second to first place. Hsu stated that the team follows the principle of "usable, user-friendly, and affordable," standardizing the process from data organization and model training to system integration, enabling rapid application in smart manufacturing, financial services, and intelligent campus environments, thereby enhancing Taiwan’s overall cybersecurity and identity verification resilience.
Professor Chen Kuo-Yi from the Department of Computer Science led a team that won first place in both the "Labor Protection and Insurance Smart Services Group" and "Information Application Group (IP10)" with the project "Virtual Heavy Machinery Certification Test." Chen explained that the project integrates virtual reality, sensing technology, and AI evaluation to create a more realistic and fair testing environment. The system will be applied to labor training, traffic safety education, and smart driving instruction in the future.
The Information Technology team, guided by Associate Professor Chuang Wen-Ho, won first place in "Information Application Group (IP07)" with the project "Smart Drone-Assisted Book Inventory System." Chuang stated that the project combines drones and AI recognition technology to automate library inventory management, detecting missing or misplaced books and greatly improving library management efficiency.
Professor Chen Kuo-Yi also guided two other award-winning teams: the project "Pet Drinking Care System with Training Model" won second place in the "AUO Smart Field and ESG Application Group," and "Interactive Biomimetic Robotic Fish" received an honorable mention in "Information Application Group 9."
